- ➤ A new Food Lion opened on North Elm Street in Greensboro today, marking the first store in over 18 years (store manager Ken Mabe said it is set to serve local shoppers). News & Record
- ➤ Toyota announced this week that the 2027 Highlander, the first BEV assembled in America, will have batteries made at the TBMNC plant (Liberty) in the Triad. The facility opened late last year producing lithium-ion batteries for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. WFMY

- ➤ On Saturday, the Greensboro Chinese Association will celebrate Chinese New Year by welcoming in the Year of the Horse at Greensboro Day School's Sloan Theater. WFMY

- ➤ JoAnne Smart Drane ’60, the first African American student at UNCG, met with student artists who created a mural in her honor in the Foust Building. The meeting, held as UNCG recalled its history with the mural (installed Dec. 2024), allowed her to share advice from her trailblazing journey. UNCG

- ➤ The latest Drought Monitor shows severe drought affecting Greensboro and nearby areas despite recent snowfall, with the Yadkin River and many streams running low. Dry conditions intensified by reduced rainfall since last year could affect local water use plus outdoor recreation. WXII 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ County health officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, to inaugurate a no-cost naloxone vending machine at Triad Health Project (501 West Westwood Avenue) in High Point. The machine provides naloxone, wound care kits and test strips to help prevent overdose deaths. Rhino Times
- ➤ A new long-term recovery and treatment center opened Monday on Lees Chapel Road for people facing homelessness and addiction plus mental health challenges. Guilford County leaders say the facility, named for Rev. Prince Edward Graves, will provide extended care beyond short-term programs. ABC45
