  • Wet 'n Wild Emerald Pointe is hosting a job fair on April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park's administration office to hire 600 employees for its season opening on May 24—positions include lifeguards, food and beverage workers, cooks, bartenders, servers, custodians and ride attendants.  WXII 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Matthew Queen, a former Greensboro pastor, pleaded guilty to making false statements to the government in a case related to a Texas sexual misconduct investigation—he avoided 20 years in prison and was sentenced to one year of probation with six months of house arrest.  WFMY

  • Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight and Stephanie Mills will perform at First Horizon Coliseum on Sept. 19—part of the 'The Queens! 4 Legends, 1 Stage' tour—and tickets are on sale now.  WFMY
  • RiverRun International Film Festival will open April 11 in Winston-Salem and run through April 19 at several venues including a screening of 'A Little Prayer' at UNCSA Gold Theatre on April 18, showcasing films with strong North Carolina ties. Interim co-directors Mary Dossinger & Tiffany Jones took over after Rob Davis retired last December, and advance ticket sales already sold out in record time.  YES! Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Senior Ethan Divon from UNCG’s Lloyd International Honors College used the Pubantz Artist in Residence Program to create a full Renaissance faire costume by hand—he learned shoemaking and made a felt hat, knitted socks, and crocheted accessories. He will show his project on April 10—he plans to use the experience as a step toward graduate school to study ancient languages.  UNCG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, Greensboro City Council unanimously passed a resolution urging the North Carolina Department of Transportation to rename the Sandy Ridge Bridge on Interstate 40 after Sgt. Philip Dale Nix, a local officer fatally shot while off duty just over a year ago. The resolution now moves to the state transportation department—reflecting the council’s ongoing effort to honor his legacy.  ABC45
  • Greensboro Transit Authority said more than 80% of surveyed residents want more frequent bus service as part of a plan to make the city car optional over the next ten years. The Transportation Advisory Committee approved the ridership plan and it will be presented to city council later in April or May—officials noted a 30% rise in ridership on the CrossMax Purple route and plan to launch the CrossMax Orange route by year’s end.  WXII 12
