CRIME NEWS

  • Nearly a year after 21-year-old William Murphy was fatally shot on April 28 on the Greensboro Urban Loop during a reckless drive, his family continues to seek justice—urging anyone who saw a red or burgundy sedan with dark tinted windows to come forward—while police search for clues.  ABC45
  • Greensboro police said their investigation of a hit-and-run involving a Guilford County Schools bus—struck on April 7 around 3:42 p.m. at the Bridford Parkway and Hornaday Road intersection—revealed that a teal mid-90s to early 2000s Mercedes E-Class missing its rear brake lens cover and bumper protective strip made an improper left turn and fled toward Guilford College Road.  WXII 12

  • The Triad will host many free events this week, including a Greensboro Cannabis Crawl on April 19 at 210 N. Davie St. that features THC-infused food and drinks — a Strange Fruit Foundation Festival with local Black artists and an Earth Day parade at LeBauer Park, live music at Gas Hill Drinking Room in Winston-Salem, a 4/20 Party at Wise Man Brewing, and karaoke at Grandover Resort in Greensboro. On April 20, The Brewer’s Kettle in Kernersville will hold a 4/20 Mini Festy with music and vendors, and on April 26 Greensboro Parks and Recreation will host a dog egg hunt at Griffin Dog Park — some events require age checks or registration.  YES!   • Piedmont Triad International Airport reminds travelers that starting May 7, TSA will require a REAL ID or an approved alternative to board flights. The airport advises checking ID expiration dates—passengers without compliant identification may face extra screening and delays.  YES! Weekly
  • Governor Josh Stein appointed Lisa Johnson-Tonkins to serve on the Guilford Superior Court for Judicial District 24A, according to the governor's office Wednesday.  News & Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cone Health filed its certificate-of-need application to build a 46-bed, $275 million hospital in Mebane — the new facility will be adjacent to its MedCenter and is projected to open in 2029 to serve eastern Alamance.   • Lisa Carter said her home in Poplar Ridge remains unsafe due to water damage and poor grading after nearly six years of unmet promises from Habitat for Humanity, and she claims the $50,000 lump sum offer falls far short of the $73,000 repair estimate needed to protect her medically fragile daughter.
