  • On April 20th, a traffic accident injured people and closed both directions on West Friendly Avenue between Morgan Ashley Drive and Friends Home West—authorities advised drivers to take alternate routes.  ABC45

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Duke Energy removed light poles on North Greene Street ahead of demolition of the Bellemeade Street parking deck in downtown Greensboro set to begin today—D.H. Griffin Companies will manage the eight‑month project with road and sidewalk closures as work proceeds to address structural safety issues discovered in late 2023.  Rhino Times
  • The Guilford County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on April 17 to update street and address rules to help emergency services and delivery drivers locate properties faster—new standards that will take effect in 30 days will guide county planning for new developments.  Rhino Times
  • City leaders in Greensboro will hold public meetings in each council district starting April 22nd to discuss a possible water and sewer rate increase; any resident may attend any meeting regardless of where they live (the schedule is open to all).  News & Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report by the Lown Institute found that the Triad’s three largest healthcare systems are among North Carolina’s top eight hospitals providing community benefits—measured by comparing tax breaks with funds spent on free care and outreach programs—and the study of 2020 to 2022 shows they gave back significantly more than they received.  News & Record
