Six groups from across the state competed in Greensboro in a paramedic event where they responded to a mock emergency scenario — the contest allowed teams to demonstrate their skills as they vied for the title.

On Sunday, families, retirees and unions gathered downtown to protest and call for an end to the cuts.

The demonstration brought workers together plus several community members voiced their concerns about the proposed reductions.

At 2:13 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a crash on South Elm-Eugene Street in Greensboro where police said one person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and another with moderate injuries — all lanes from West Elmsley Drive to Webster Road were closed — and urged drivers to avoid the area.

A crash near S. Elm-Eugene Street in Greensboro injured two people (one with serious injuries and one with moderate injuries), Guilford EMS said.
