- ➤ Demolition has begun at Greensboro Science Center to remove the old Discovery House and clear space for a new 32,000-square-foot Biodome and Aquatic Rehabilitation Center—designed to blend immersive wildlife exhibits and ocean-like habitats. Construction will finish by April or May 2027 with a grand opening scheduled for later that summer. WFMY
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Greensboro Police Department said that on April 30, a Toyota driven by Betsabe Cano Santillo sped into the intersection at West Gate City Boulevard, colliding with a Nissan Versa and a Honda Accord and injuring five people including one with life threatening injuries while Ms. Santillo is facing charges (no operator's license, reckless driving to endanger, failure to stop at a red light, wrong way on a dual lane highway, failure to reduce speed) as the investigation continues. - ➤ The North Carolina Folk Festival will run from Sept. 12th to 14th and will feature headliners Sammy Rae & The Friends on Friday, Arrested Development on Saturday, and Steep Canyon Rangers on Sunday. Special acts from NC A&T State University’s Fellowship Gospel Choir and a family-friendly jam with The Rock and Roll Playhouse will also be part of the free event. FOX 8

- ➤ Triad residents are rushing to DMV offices today to get REAL IDs ahead of the May 7 federal deadline, even though many already qualify if their licenses show a gold star—some have missed their spots because required documents were forgotten. - ➤ On May 4, Governor Josh Stein said that although $55M was distributed through one grant program and a new $55M program is accepting applications, small businesses still faced infrastructure challenges and he will soon ask the legislature for additional Helene relief funding — a move aimed at supporting economic recovery in impacted communities. - ➤ Carroll Companies broke ground on a new luxury hotel and mixed-use project at the corner of Eugene Street and Bellemeade Street in downtown Greensboro on May 5 during Cinco de Mayo celebrations—local officials and developers praised the project for its promise to boost downtown development. The project will feature a nine-story AC Marriott hotel with 159 rooms and a rooftop restaurant called The Bristol—named in honor of founder Roy Carroll’s dog. Rhino Times
