  • The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office warned that scam calls promising to free inmates for a $5,000 Bitcoin payment are fraudulent; Sheriff Danny Rogers said the office will never ask for money and urged residents to call (336-641-3694) if they receive such calls.  YES! Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jamestown Elementary School has launched a new gardening project after the school received a grant from the N.C. Cooperative Extension — teachers and community partners built raised beds and donated supplies so students learn about plant life cycles and STEM. The project, which involves classes from pre-K to fifth grade and an afterschool garden club, will soon expand to include more community input.  YES! Weekly
  • Local historian Shelly Lutzweiler has written a book titled One Land: Three Landmarks that details the untold history of the property that evolved into Guilford Technical Community College, the Iddings House, and a tuberculosis sanitorium — she presented highlights of her research at the May 1 First Thursday History Program at Jamestown Public Library.  YES! GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Greensboro City Council voted on May 6 to oppose House Bill 765—a law that would force cities to allow at least six housing units per acre and remove local zoning controls. Mayor Nancy Vaughan said the bill would harm property values and local growth while officials plan to work for changes in the law.  News & Record
