ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two drivers died in a head-on crash on US 29 North near West Green Drive in High Point early Sunday at 2:20 a.m.—police identified the victims as Jose Altagracia De Leon Corcino, aged 44, from Greensboro, and Rolando Ventura Alberto, aged 19, from Thomasville, and said an investigation is underway to determine if speed or impairment played a role.  FOX 8

CRIME NEWS

  • Police say two people were injured in an overnight shooting on Hewitt Street in Greensboro shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday—both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital as the investigation continues.  WXII 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Forsyth and Guilford counties are ranked Tier 2 for 2025 under state economic rankings, with Forsyth at 37th and Guilford at 49th. A UNC School of Government study said the current system—designed for economic incentives—fails to capture true local economic differences.  News & Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • WFDD’s Paul Garber explained that the Sauratown Mountains—including Pilot Mountain, known for its quartzite dome—were formed from layers of sediment that rose when an ancient ocean receded. He said the rugged peaks, which may be older than the Appalachians, show many different ecosystems over short hikes.  WFDD

  • Novant Health is giving free skin cancer tests to firefighters because their work puts them at higher risk than most people. The hospital hopes the tests will help find skin cancer early.  WFMY
