- ➤ Yesterday, Guilford County Parks Department announced that aquatic centers at Bur-Mil Park, Hagan-Stone Park and Northeast Park will open on Memorial Day weekend with weekend-only hours until June 8 and will switch to seven-day schedules in early to mid-June; admission is $6 for guests 13 and older with discount passes available starting May 24. - ➤ A fire broke out in the kitchen of one apartment at Hall Towers on North Church Street around 11:43 a.m. on Monday — it affected a neighboring unit with smoke damage and led officials to relocate residents even though no one was hurt. WFMY
- ➤ High Point Police reported a two-car crash on US-29 North near West Green Drive at 2:20 a.m. Sunday that killed Jose Altagracia De Leon Corcino, a 44-year-old from Greensboro, and Rolando Ventura Alberto, a 19-year-old from Thomasville — investigators have not yet determined if speed or impairment were factors. - ➤ Greensboro Police said that around 2:20 a.m. Sunday morning, they responded to an assault on the 3600 block of Hewitt Street—first responders discovered two gunshot victims with non-life threatening wounds who were hospitalized, and the investigation remains ongoing with no suspect description available. - ➤ Candidate Nicky Smith for Greensboro City Council District 4 warned that House Bill 765 will strip local zoning authority and force the city to follow state rules, which could lead to increased traffic and falling property values. - ➤ County Manager Mike Halford will present his proposed budget on Thursday, May 15 without a tax rate increase — he will use extra funds from a recent property revaluation.
