- ➤ A single-car crash occurred on Wednesday morning around 12:15 on the I-40 east ramp from West Wendover Avenue when 38-year-old Erica Trenise Caviness drove her silver Nissan Sentra off the road and hit a tree—she was hospitalized and later died while a woman passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. - ➤ Guilford County Schools is proposing to merge Madison, Southern, Vandalia, and Washington Elementary Schools in the 2026-27 or 2027-28 school years due to poor building conditions and low enrollment—attendance boundaries will be redrawn and parents can share feedback from May 14 until the June 10 board meeting.
