  • The First Tee – Triad Race to Ace charity event will be held tomorrow, May 30 at Gillespie Golf Course and offers family fun, golf and support for local youth programs.  WFMY
  • Downtown Greensboro’s 4-mile Greenway has just opened and already hosts running and biking events for residents. The trail offers a new space for active recreation in the heart of the city.  WFMY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, May 27, Downtown Greensboro Inc. launched an Emergency Stabilization Fund for small, street-level businesses in the downtown BID to reimburse up to $2,000 for unexpected repair costs, such as vandalism or forced-entry damage, after owners first pay for repairs.  Rhino Times
  • A Greensboro business closed and filed for bankruptcy this week, leaving $392,652 owed to 90 creditors including customers + subcontractors + employees. Twanna Davis said she paid for painting work that began in March and now many workers have not received pay.  WFMY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Flat Iron, a longtime club offering live music five nights each week, raised $46,000 to keep its doors open and will rely on future ticket sales — owners hope continued patronage will sustain the venue in Greensboro.  News & Record

ECONOMY NEWS

  • JetZero will break ground on its $4.7 billion aerospace manufacturing facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport on June 15 while asking officials to revise its job creation timeline due to state budget delays & maintain plans to create 14,564 jobs that will boost local business.  WXII 12
  • Consumer Reports compared the price of 56 grocery items using Walmart as a baseline and found that the same basket can cost over 33% more at some stores. The report advises shoppers to mix trips between discount chains & traditional supermarkets and use loyalty programs to save money.  WFMY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Greensboro launched RISE Infill, a redevelopment financing program announced on Tuesday, May 26 to help close financing gaps for owners and developers in older commercial corridors, with private banks partnering alongside city funds for support; participating banks include Towne Bank, First Bank, United Community Bank, and M&F Bank.  Rhino Times

  • Greensboro mom Cherrie Robinson, a Guilford County Schools employee, became a homeowner after a yearlong process with help from Habitat for Humanity. She now enjoys a stable living space thanks to the nonprofit’s affordable housing support.  WFMY

  • On Thursday, the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame revealed its 11 inductees from six sports at First Horizon Coliseum—sponsored by the Greensboro Sports Foundation. The inductees will be honored in a reception and banquet Sept. 14, with tickets available starting June 1.  WFMY
