  • The Guilford County Family Justice Center celebrated its 10th anniversary on June 6 in Greensboro with a breakfast that brought together leaders, survivors, and community volunteers to mark a decade of coordinated help for abuse victims. The event featured the presentation of the inaugural Sgt. Dale Nix Partner of the Year Award — honoring the late sergeant and the strong collaboration with 17 partner agencies.  Rhino Times

  • Greensboro police said one person was hurt in a crash on Cone Boulevard between Marston Road and Cleburne Street—drivers should take another route—and they expect the road to remain closed for an extended period—no reopening time has been given.  WXII 12

  • A shooting at Home Depot on South Elm Eugene St. in Greensboro injured one person.  WFMY
  • Greensboro police said a shooting occurred at the Home Depot on South Elm-Eugene Street after Guilford County EMS received a call at 6:49 p.m.—officials confirmed it was an aggravated assault.  WFMY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On June 5, over 30 educators, parents, and school employees spoke at a public hearing held at the Old Guilford County Court House in downtown Greensboro urging the Guilford County Board of Commissioners to increase funding for local schools. The speakers said stronger financial support is needed for both teachers and students as the county prepares to finalize the fiscal 2025 to 2026 budget later this month.  Rhino Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a crowded public hearing on June 5, more than 30 speakers urged commissioners to allocate nearly $850,000—funds that will extend mediation services for locals facing eviction—in the new county budget. Keep Gate City Housed, a group formed last year, supports the request as key to reducing the broader costs of homelessness.  Rhino Times
