- ➤ Several Juneteenth celebrations are scheduled in the Piedmont Triad this week including Greensboro’s fifth annual Black Food Truck Festival in LeBauer Park with music, vendors and games, and a fourth annual Juneteenth Gospel Superfest on Sunday at Barber Park Amphitheater. Additional Triad Cultural Arts events include flash mobs in Kernersville and Winston-Salem on June 19 with fireworks and a procession on June 21. WFDD

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Guilford County Board of Education voted Tuesday to close four elementary schools—Madison, Vandalia, Washington, and Southern—citing underuse that strained the district’s budget and expecting to save $1.7 million annually. The closures will occur in the 2026–27 academic year for the first three schools and the following year for Southern, with residential boundaries adjusted for affected students. WFDD

- ➤ The City of Greensboro unveiled its five-year Comprehensive Community Safety Plan at Monday’s Peace on Purpose event at the Simkins Sports Pavilion, where officials and community leaders discussed steps to cut violence and boost neighborhood safety. The plan (shaped by over a year of community input and data analysis) sets goals to enhance youth programs, housing stability, mental health support and police-community ties across Greensboro. - ➤ Guilford County government replaced its seven-year-old MWBE Department with a new Small Business and Entrepreneurship Department—keeping the same director, staff, and many functions while broadening its mission to support all small businesses.
