COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Guilford County is offering cooling stations to help residents beat the extreme heat as temperatures are expected to reach the high 90s—stations include the Interactive Resource Center with extended hours today through Thursday and several other centers in Greensboro and High Point.  FOX 8
  • Greensboro’s historic Gillespie Golf Course will get a multimillion-dollar renovation later this year—city officials said the updates will include new cart paths, tee boxes, a short course and a clubhouse, and the work is expected to take two years. The project is the biggest update for the course and honors its civil rights history.  WXII 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • At a public hearing on June 18, Cone Health and Novant/Duke Health presented competing bids filed in April to build a 46-bed community hospital in Mebane — Cone seeks a $275 million project adjacent to its MedCenter while Novant/Duke plans a $225 million facility to meet growing local needs with an opening in 2029. The state will decide on the proposals within 90 to 120 days.  News & Record
