CRIME NEWS

  • Benjamin Cole, aged 47, was freed Wednesday after nearly 27 years in prison when a judge vacated his first-degree murder conviction in a plea deal—he always maintained his innocence and said he was in Ohio at the time of the 1998 killing in a Greensboro apartment, and he was reunited with his mother.  FOX 8
  • Authorities arrested Jordan Jefferson (37) and Saadia Owen (32), the teacher from Southern Guilford Middle School, after a fentanyl bust that seized about 1,250 grams; Jefferson received no bond while Owen’s bond was set at $3 million.  WXII 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday at the Depot, city officials and residents discussed Greensboro’s plan to build 10,000 new homes by 2030 as new companies bring jobs to our growing city.
