- ➤ Benjamin Cole, aged 47, was freed Wednesday after nearly 27 years in prison when a judge vacated his first-degree murder conviction in a plea deal—he always maintained his innocence and said he was in Ohio at the time of the 1998 killing in a Greensboro apartment, and he was reunited with his mother.
