BUSINESS NEWS

  • Greensboro officials approved a permit in late May to build a new Marriott StudioRes hotel with 124 rooms at 605 Guilford College Road next to Top Golf—costing just over $11 million. The hotel will offer in-room kitchens, a workout room, and laundry facilities while plans for an entertainment center from Main Event Entertainment are also moving forward.  WFMY

CRIME NEWS

  • Larry Burton, a 74-year-old man with dementia, disappeared from a Greensboro care facility near the 1200 block of Moody Street on July 2 and police say that about 50 to 100 volunteers have searched for him— a search is scheduled at 816 South Elm Street on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.  ABC45

  • Triad farmers have experienced heavy flooding that affected their fields (much of the water is drying up this morning).  WFMY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Low-income homeowners in Greensboro who had higher property taxes in 2024 compared to 2021 and earn $54,800 or less may get tax assistance — they must apply online by Oct. 31 on a first-come basis.  FOX 8
  • Recent weeks have put Greensboro in the spotlight as the SBI reviewed a City Council representative and former City Attorney Chuck Watts whose work for Cyberlux was questioned while the DOJ indicted a CEO for rigging a bid. On July 14, city officials released a draft separation agreement for Watts—showing efforts to address these issues as investigations continue.  YES! Weekly
