- ➤ Throughout August, Guilford County Animal Services is reducing pet adoption fees from $75 to $25 for dogs — and cats to clear shelter space as part of the national Clear the Shelter campaign. - ➤ The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office will use GPS projectiles from patrol cars and handheld launchers to tag suspect vehicles and stop dangerous chases, pending board approval on Aug. 7. The system—costing $55,153 from federal forfeiture funds—will be tested during a trial period and may be expanded if it proves effective. Rhino Times
- ➤ An audit released Monday found DMV wait times have grown longer and staffing shortages persist—reviews show a 15% rise in average wait times since 2019 with customers often traveling far—while DMV and DOT officials note that reforms and temporary examiner hiring measures are underway. WFDD

- ➤ Guilford County found mold in the Lee’s Chapel project during demolition in May and will approve a $632,284 increase at the Thursday, Aug. 7 meeting to cover extra costs—this setback delayed work by two weeks and pushes completion to December 31. - ➤ City of Greensboro officials invited residents to complete an online survey and attend public meetings in August to help update the Hazard Mitigation Plan—aimed at preparing for floods, tornadoes, winter storms, and other hazards—and collect feedback accepted until Aug 31.
