CRIME NEWS

  • Greensboro police responded Tuesday night at 9:05 p.m. on West Market Street to an aggravated assault where officers found a victim with gunshot wounds who was taken to the hospital—no update on their condition has been provided.  WXII 12
  • The Greensboro City Council is pushing to view body camera footage from a May 14 police stop—video circulated on social media showing an officer threatening a car and residents calling for changes, while City Attorney Lora Cubbage said she will petition the court as an internal investigation continues.  WFDD
  • Authorities charged Tariq Mosley, 28, and Michael Garrison, 26, with first-degree murder in Greensboro in connection with the death of Marsalis Murphey — both men also face charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.  News & Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During the August 1st–3rd weekend, UNCG students and their families dropped off belongings at residence halls as part of the Stop, Drop, and Roll tradition to ease their move-in process. They met with housing staff and advisors to learn about campus life and begin their college journey.  UNCG
  • Greensboro Police Department is offering a new way to pay parking tickets by letting residents donate school supplies to local teachers — a program now in its fifth year. From Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, supplies can be dropped off at the Police Headquarters or Parking Enforcement office on South Swing Road — donations must equal or exceed the ticket amount.  WXII 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Guilford County government data shows that County Manager Victor Isler earns $315,000 a year — the highest salary among top officials even though he joined four years ago, while county attorney Andrea Leslie-Fite and Sheriff Danny Rogers earn $269,818 and $217,839 respectively. Other senior officials, including CFO Donald Warn and CIO Peter Purcell, earn between $175,000 and $195,361, and Veterans Services Director Robert Shelly is paid $96,901.  Rhino Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Greensboro is now offering up to $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance to first-time buyers or those who have not owned a home recently—applicants must buy in Greensboro, meet income and credit requirements, and complete an 8-hour homebuyer education course. Buyers purchasing in neighborhoods such as Glenwood, Willow Oaks, or Kings Forest may get extra funds, but they must live in the home for several years to avoid repayment.  WFMY
