CRIME NEWS

  • Greensboro police said one person was injured after a shooting just before 8 p.m. Saturday on East Market Street near English Street—officers transported the victim by ambulance and have not released any details on their condition or a suspect.  WXII 12
  • Forsyth County Superior Court Judge Robert Broadie threw out the 2002 convictions of four teens who were found guilty of killing Nathaniel Jones—he noted that a key witness admitted lying, DNA tests did not match the suspects, and their legal defense was weak—while Forsyth District Attorney Jim O'Neill said prosecutors will appeal the decision.  News & Record
  • Police reported that Best Parker was found stabbed and unresponsive in Reidsville on Tuesday evening — she died shortly after reaching the hospital.  News & Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Education notified Guilford County Schools and Wake County Schools that federal funding for the School-Based Mental Health Services Grant Program will end by December. Guilford schools spent nearly $9 million to help more than 2,000 students with over 20,000 therapy sessions—officials say they are exploring alternative funding options.  Spectrum News 1
