- ➤ North Carolina’s jobless rate stayed at 3.7% in July as the labor force fell and many companies lost jobs, with manufacturing cutting back significantly. FedEx will close its Greensboro shipping center on Sept. 1 and Qorvo will shut its local wafer plant by early 2027—moves that may mean fewer jobs for the area. News & Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Josh Stein met with law enforcement and local officials in Winston-Salem to announce a task force targeting a nearly 50% rise in juvenile gang crime in the Triad area, and the group—featuring education, legal, mental health and former gang representatives—will advise on measures to keep young people off gangs as Stein urged the General Assembly to pass a full budget with raises and bonuses for officers.
