CRIME NEWS
- ➤ NC A&T police are investigating shots fired overnight near the Deese Clock Tower during a large, unofficial student gathering—no one was injured as AggieAlert! issued a warning and officials noted that two people discharged weapons without targeting one another. WFDD
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A state report showed that manufacturing lost nearly 9,000 jobs over the past year while overall unemployment stayed at 3.7 percent in July—shutdown plans by Howard Miller and PVH Corp added to the loss. WFDD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UNCG Assistant Professor Eric Drollette found that nine minutes of simple classroom exercise improved children’s verbal test scores, with participants aged 9-12 performing exercises like high knees—jumping jacks, lunges and air squats. He says that these brief movement breaks may help schools boost academic performance as recess time declines. UNCG

- ➤ Greensboro is getting red light cameras back as the mayor said drivers are too reckless—officials hope the cameras will encourage safer driving. News & Record
- ➤ The Greensboro Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zoning request for the Villages of Summerfield Farms project, a 30 year plan that may add up to 4,775 new homes including apartments & single-family houses on a large area with green space. The Greensboro City Council will hold a public hearing on Sept. 16 to review the next steps. WFDD
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Cone Health will expand its school-based telehealth program this fall—adding 12 elementary schools to serve 40 mainly high-poverty schools in Guilford, Rockingham and Alamance counties so that students can quickly connect with remote health providers through on-site certified staff. WFDD

- ➤ Greensboro native John Isner, a former top-ten tennis player who won back-to-back titles at the Winston-Salem Open, has taken on a new role as tournament ambassador. He will be on-site at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex today and return Friday to meet fans and speak with sponsors—continuing his involvement in tennis after retiring nearly two years ago. WFDD
