  • Civil rights pioneer Joseph McNeil—one of the Greensboro Four who led a sit-in at F.W. Woolworth’s in Greensboro in 1960 when he was 17—died at 83.  WFMY

CRIME NEWS

  • A Greensboro man was charged with assault after he punched his father, elder Taylor, about 20 times and hit him twice with a chair, according to the sheriff's office.  News & Record
  • On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at about 5:45 p.m., deputies responded to a family disorder call at 2808 Candlenut Road in Greensboro and arrested 30-year-old Brandon Wayne Taylor after he physically assaulted a man and retrieved a firearm from his car—a search of his residence led to the seizure of marijuana and other narcotics.  ABC45
  • Greensboro police will file a petition today to release body camera footage from a fatal shooting on Marion Street on Aug. 5 after the district attorney reviews the State Bureau of Investigations report on the incident in which suspect Said Ezzine—allegedly trespassing, not following orders, and retrieving a weapon—was shot by an officer.  WFDD

  • The Greensboro Police Department reported a water main break on East Bessemer Avenue that has closed all lanes between Yanceyville Street and Summit Avenue—drivers should take alternate routes while officials work to restore service.  WXII 12
  • At its Thursday, Sept 4 meeting, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners honored former mayor Jim Melvin by adopting a resolution that recognized his leadership in shaping Greensboro’s growth and civic life — a tribute marked by presenting a framed copy to his wife Susan and son Jimbo. The resolution celebrated his impact as a long-serving public servant, whose work in banking, philanthropy, and city development left an enduring legacy.  Rhino Times
