- ➤ Joseph McNeil, one of the Greensboro Four who as teenagers staged a sit-in at the segregated F.W. Woolworth store, died last week—his actions with his friends led to a meeting with Martin Luther King and helped end the practice of serving only white customers at the counter six months later. - ➤ Dale and Barbara Phipps have set up the Dale and Barbara Phipps Nursing Scholarship Fund at UNCG to support nursing students, adding to their other funds for accounting, creative writing, and athletics. The new fund will help local nursing students overcome the nursing shortage in North Carolina as part of UNCG’s Light the Way campaign—focusing on practical, hands-on training. UNCG

- ➤ A northbound lane on Josephine Boyd Street at Campus Drive in Greensboro was closed after an eight-inch water main broke on Monday morning—leaving about 30 customers without water. Water crews were repairing the break and expected to finish around 5 p.m. as city officials warned drivers to avoid the area. WXII 12
- ➤ Samuel Hunter will become the new director of the Greensboro Housing & Neighborhood Development Department next Wednesday as he takes charge of local housing challenges. A Greensboro resident who previously worked in Winston-Salem, he will manage programs such as the $30M Choice Neighborhood Initiative and work with local partners to boost affordable housing options.
