CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Greensboro will host the NC Folk Festival from Sept 12 to Sept 14 with headliners Sammy Rae and The Friends on Friday, Arrested Development on Saturday, and Steep Canyon Rangers on Sunday — after parties are planned on Friday and Saturday. City officials announced that several downtown streets will be closed from 10 a.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday while local parking decks offer $10 per car per day.  WXII 12
  • WFMY News 2 will broadcast the memorial service honoring civil rights icon Joseph McNeil at 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro & viewers can watch the service live on WFMY+.  WFMY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The T.Z. Osborne Water Reclamation Facility in Greensboro was fined $24,000 for carbon monoxide pollution caused by burning dried sludge— the city has not yet provided an update.  News & Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in District 4 will soon vote for a new city council member as three candidates — Nicky Smith, Adam Marshall, and Steve Ignac — run to replace retiring Councilwoman Nancy Hoffmann. Early voting begins Sept. 18, the primary is Oct. 7 and the general election is on Nov. 4.  News & Record
  • At their September 4 meeting, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners voted to name Natalie Craver as the new assistant county manager—she joined in April 2024—and her role took effect immediately. She now runs the Successful People section and leads the Department of Health and Human Services—one of the county’s largest agencies—and works with local partners to improve services.  Rhino Times
