  • Greensboro will host busy fall festivities with family events, runs, festivals, and Halloween celebrations nearly every weekend, starting with the Glenwood Family Fun Day on Sept 20 and the Downtown Greenway Run & Block Party on Sept 27 at LoFi Park—sponsored by city partners like the Greensboro Youth Council and Joymongers Brewing. BUSINESS NEWS

  • VF Corp announced Monday it will sell its long-known Dickies workwear brand for $600 million in cash to Bluestar Alliance LLC, with the deal expected to close by year's end. The move follows VF’s decision to move its main office from Greensboro to Denver in 2019 to help lower debt.  News & Record

  • NC wildlife officials say bears in the Triad that find a steady supply of human food may not hibernate and will stay active all year—residents are urged to secure garbage and pet food to help reduce conflicts.  News & Record

  • Guilford County will hold a public hearing on Oct. 2 to let taxpayers review the 2026 property revaluation process—one where key cost formulas can only be viewed in person under strict copyright rules. Residents can examine the data at the Independence Building during work hours but may not copy or photograph any details—ensuring the method stays protected.  Rhino Times
  • Greensboro voters are set to choose three at-large city council members from 10 candidates, including two incumbents and eight challengers with diverse backgrounds—early voting begins on Sept 18 with the primary on Oct 7 and the general election on Nov 4.  News & Record
  • The Greensboro council will consider selling the Regency Inn property for $350k to create affordable housing — a plan that follows four years of efforts to repurpose the former motel site.  News & Record
  • The Guilford County Board of Commissioners is set to transfer the old animal shelter site on West Wendover Avenue to Greensboro for affordable housing as soon as a vote is held and legal documents are prepared—meeting a key request by city leaders.   • A new DMV report shows that Greensboro wait times remain longer than in other parts of Northwest North Carolina—Greensboro offices recorded waits of 1 hour 48 minutes and 2 hours 38 minutes compared to 12 minutes at some rural locations. HEALTH NEWS

  • Joe Cala, 75, faces a return of prostate cancer after earlier successful brachytherapy treatment — tests in November showed the cancer spread to his hips, pelvis, skull and lung and he underwent four rounds of chemotherapy with his last treatment four months ago. With strong family support and careful medical care, he is now slowly resuming his favorite activities.  WFMY
  • Consumer Reports tested 16 toddler towers and found that 13 failed a stability test while manufacturers claimed their models passed internal checks. Their study shows that safety standards for these towers have not been set—parents should follow basic safety precautions when using them.  WFMY

  • In Sunday’s game, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young set career highs with 328 passing yards and three touchdowns as his team fell 27 to 22 to the Cardinals after trying to overcome a 27 to 3 deficit—while rookie receiver Tetaira McMillan earned his first 100-yard game—demonstrating a spark of improvement despite the loss.  WFMY
