  • A Summerfield man claimed a $100K prize from a scratch-off ticket he bought in Greensboro—lottery officials said he collected $71,764 after required tax withholdings and that he will use the money to pay bills and save the rest.  WFMY

  • Creative Greensboro announced its 57th season of drama programming, which starts in October and runs through August, and partners with local theater artists and community members to present both classic adaptations and new play events — promising a full year of live theater performances.  YES!   • UNCG advisors help students choose classes and plan their degrees to graduate on time. They use tools like BioAdvise— which gives personal guidance in biology, nursing, and education to help students succeed.  UNCG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Triad Third Act will hold a Sun Day event on September 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church—417 Arlington St.—to show that clean energy from the sun and wind is available now; the event is part of a nationwide push for renewable energy solutions.  YES! Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, September 22, South Davie Street, East McGee Street, and East Washington Street will be closed to through traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the Davie Street streetscape project until Friday, October 24—local busses and traffic may still use the roads while motorists are urged to follow alternate routes.  ABC45
  • Greensboro voters and candidates said the early voting plan is problematic as only the old Guilford County Courthouse is open until three more sites open Sept 25. Some critics called the schedule a form of voter suppression—while city officials plan free bus rides and reserved parking to help voters get to the polls.  News & Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Greensboro high school football fans can vote for the Friday Football Fever Game of the Week for September 26; the poll closes —Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.— and each vote will help choose the matchup for the honor.  WFMY
  • Greensboro will honor NBA Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo with a court dedication at Benbow Park on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.—the event will celebrate his local roots and lasting impact on basketball.  Carolina Peacemaker
  • A&T rallied in double overtime to defeat Hampton 33-30 last Saturday at Truist Stadium, snapping a 12-game overall losing streak and earning their first conference win while coach Shawn Gibbs praised the team's resilience.
