- ➤ Members of Hinshaw United Methodist Church worked with Appalachia Service Project this summer to rebuild homes in Avery and Mitchell counties after Tropical Storm Helene—over two dozen volunteers installed cabinets and trim on three-bedroom, one-bath houses built to resist floods and offered mortgage-free. - ➤ Community Safety Director Latisha McNeil won the Trailblazer of the Year Award from the National Offices of Violence Prevention Network for her work reducing violence in Greensboro. She created a comprehensive safety plan over two and a half years—she is now expanding the plan with a youth strategy led by an 18-year-old director of engagement. WFDD

- ➤ Warmer winds pushed Triad temperatures into the 80s on Tuesday and are holding them high today — a cold front is slowly moving in from the west that will raise the risk for showers and thunderstorms later this week. WXII 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On September 12th, a UNCG study found that blacklegged ticks carrying Lyme disease spread into western North Carolina counties, especially in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with numbers rising sharply. The research shows ticks from southwestern Virginia are more likely to carry the bacteria—prompting calls for enhanced public health measures. UNCG
- ➤ State officials approved plans for Cone Health to build a new hospital in Mebane—this $250 million facility will open in 2029. WFMY
