- ➤ Greensboro residents will learn about a new 10-year downtown plan at a series of GSO35 pop-up events hosted by Downtown Greensboro, Inc. The plan—which was developed with input from over 2,500 locals and aims to add 5,000 residents, 3,000 jobs, and major redevelopment projects—will be featured at an Elm Street stroll/Oktoberfest on Oct 4, face painting at the Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum on Oct 10, and a run club at SouthEnd Brewing on Oct 16. Rhino Times
- ➤ More than 100 local veterans joined the Triad Honor Flight on Wednesday for a visit to Washington where they honored their service at military memorials and museums. The Greater Greensboro Detachment 260 of the Marine Corps League will host a $10,000 check presentation at Golden Corral on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. to help fund the next trip. WXII 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Guilford County Board of Commissioners will vote today on a proposal to shift $3.59 million from projects that no longer need their full budget to schools with higher repair costs, a move already approved by the Board of Education and part of the $2 billion bond program. Officials say the change will not affect the overall $699.5 million budget and will help fund long-deferred repairs as projects continue into the early 2030s—keeping pace with evolving needs across the school system. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Nicholas A. Vacc Counseling and Consulting Clinic at UNCG offers mental health services to both students and local residents and trains counseling students through hands-on sessions—expanding services this fall to include children and adolescents while using a sliding-scale fee system. The clinic saw a 23 percent increase in adult clients during the last academic year and now prepares more than 30 future counselors to meet local needs. UNCG
- ➤ The NC Dental Examiners board said no dental procedures were done before a 2-year-old died at Valleygate Dental Surgery Center in Greensboro. WFMY
- ➤ The North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners closed its investigation into Valleygate Dental Surgery Center in Greensboro after two-year-old Er'Mias Mitchell died over the summer when no dental procedures were performed and anesthesia was given by other licensed medical providers—officials said the facility is regulated by another agency.
