  • Organizers say the Eastern Music Festival will end after 64 years—after training more than 10,000 young musicians and hosting shows at schools, libraries and senior centers, the festival will close its long-running program.  WFMY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNC Greensboro launched the FistBump Challenge today to strengthen campus connections—participants receive wooden coins with the UNCG emblem and complete a brief survey that shares how the gesture makes them feel, and the program is led by Professor Mike Perko and HealthyUNCG to help reduce loneliness on campus.  UNCG

  • Marikay Abuzuaiter and Robbie Perkins finished first in Greensboro's mayoral primary and will face a general election on November 4—voters will choose their next mayor then.  WFMY
  • In the Greensboro at-large primary, an incumbent councilman and a former city manager finished as the top candidates and six hopefuls, including them, will advance to the general election on Nov. 4 + each aims to win a seat on the council.  News & Record
  • Tuesday's primaries in Greensboro and Jamestown elected a new mayor and council members with six chosen in Greensboro and two in Jamestown.  News & Record
  • Marikay Abuzuaiter, the current Mayor Pro Tem, became emotional after winning the Greensboro mayoral primary. She now prepares for the next phase of the race — a win that reinforces her leadership role in the city.  WFMY
  • The primary election determined which candidates advanced to the general election and voters will soon have their choice in the upcoming contest. Election officials will verify the final candidate list before the next phase begins.  WFMY
  • High Point approved a $3.3 million federal grant on Monday that will allow the city to hire 24 new firefighters to address staffing challenges reported earlier this year—this grant requires a 25% match for the first two years and a 65% match in the third before the city fully supports the new hires.  WFDD
