- ➤ During the Civil War, Jamestown hosted several gun factories that produced modified rifles for Confederate soldiers, with local historian C. Michael Briggs noting that one major factory contracted with the state for thousands of rifles before closing by December 1864—local legends recall that Union troops were once misdirected near the site. - ➤ On Oct. 16, county officials reviewed a $12.3 million parks master plan that includes a conceptual $2 million treehouse—designed as a fully accessible, safe, and interactive structure—and Commissioner Tillman questioned the spending details.
