- ➤ The first major cold snap has hit the Piedmont Triad and left families in High Point struggling to cover groceries and heating as delayed SNAP benefits worsen their situation—local nonprofits feed up to 45 families daily and offer shelters and services while urging donations and volunteers. - ➤ Yesterday on Veterans Day, Army veteran Ernest Hooker—now a professor at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University—urged the Greensboro community to support veterans by donating resources like food, clothing, and computers. - ➤ Many businesses offer discounts to veterans, military, and first responders to help ease financial troubles amid a government shutdown, and free discount cards are available through the Thank A Vet Program. In Guilford County, veterans can sign up at the county Register of Deeds office (using a DD214) while similar programs expand to 30 other NC counties. WFMY

- ➤ The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture announced a nationwide recall of two lots of ByHeart Inc. Whole Nutrition Infant Formula after 13 cases of infant botulism were confirmed across 10 states, with one case under investigation in North Carolina. Parents are urged to discard or return any bought product and to clean any surfaces that touched the formula—lot 206VABP/251261P2 and lot 206VABP/251131P2—with hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
