About this event
The Indigenous Workshop - America 250 NC , introduces beginners to the key steps and records that can unlock the history of Black Indians. Whether you’ve never started your search or you’ve hit a roadblock, you’ll learn how to make progress with confidence.
In this Native American History Month presentation, you’ll learn how to:
• Begin your family history journey using records that are free and easy to access online.
• Find ancestors’ Tribal Rolls and Native American Records — and understand what those records reveal.
• Use clues from 1870 and beyond to trace family lines further back in time.
• Overcome challenges created by the Trails of Tears, Slavery, and Segregation-era record keeping.
You’ll see how ordinary documents — from Rolls and Census lists to Freedmen’s Bureau papers — can tell extraordinary family stories.
DeLoatch shares practical examples from his own research, showing how he traced his ancestry from Africa back 400 years to relatives enslaved in America. Sponsored by the AFRO-AMERICAN HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, INC (AAHGS, Inc.), North Carolina/Piedmont-Triad Chapter
Listed by North Carolina Department of Natural & Cultural Resources (Localist) and Eventbrite: Greensboro, NC, gathered by the Greensboro events calendar.
