- ➤ A state report showed that manufacturing lost nearly 9,000 jobs over the past year while overall unemployment stayed at 3.7 percent in July—shutdown plans by Howard Miller and PVH Corp added to the loss. WFDD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UNCG Assistant Professor Eric Drollette found that nine minutes of simple classroom exercise improved children’s verbal test scores, with participants aged 9-12 performing exercises like high knees—jumping jacks, lunges and air squats. - ➤ The Greensboro Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zoning request for the Villages of Summerfield Farms project, a 30 year plan that may add up to 4,775 new homes including apartments & single-family houses on a large area with green space. The Greensboro City Council will hold a public hearing on Sept. 16 to review the next steps. WFDD

- ➤ Cone Health will expand its school-based telehealth program this fall—adding 12 elementary schools to serve 40 mainly high-poverty schools in Guilford, Rockingham and Alamance counties so that students can quickly connect with remote health providers through on-site certified staff. WFDD
