COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This week the Triad will host several free events including movie nights in High Point and Winston-Salem, a live artistic showcase at the North Carolina Museum of Art, and community activities in Greensboro such as a folk fest, Rock The Block, Walk & Roll Fest, and karaoke at Grandover Resort—while live music will take place at Wise Man Brewing on Sunday. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets and enjoy family-friendly entertainment across the region.  YES! Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Funeral services for civil rights pioneer Joseph McNeil will be held today at his alma mater, North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.—Bishop William J. Barber II will deliver the eulogy while additional services are set for Hempstead on Sept. 8 and Wilmington on Sept. 12 and 13.  WFMY

  • Mayor Nancy Vaughn answered viewer questions while stating she is in her final months in office—her remarks inform local residents about the upcoming leadership change. Her response provides key insight into her closing tenure as mayor.  WFMY

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Consumer Reports survey found that nearly one in six Americans used over-the-counter sleep supplements such as melatonin, CBD, vitamin D and iron to help improve sleep. Health experts say melatonin may help people fall asleep about 7 minutes faster — but caution is needed to avoid upsetting the body’s natural sleep cycle.  WFMY
  • Valleygate Dental closed rooms after a state inspection found violations, and the state did not say if these issues were linked to a 2-year-old's death at the facility.  WFMY
